Ekiti killing: I won’t shield culprits, says Fayemi

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has said his administration would not shield the perpetrators of the violence that erupted in Emure-Ekiti penultimate Sunday in which one Foluso Ogundare was killed.

Fayemi, who said he would not support killing or violence in the name of politics, cautioned politicians, especially members of his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) “that anybody indicted in violence or killing is on his own”.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday night against the backdrop of the attack on members of Ekiti Bibiire Coalition at the venue of their ward meeting at Emure Ekiti, the governor appealed to APC members to allow peace to reign, even in the face of provocation from the opposition groups, especially in the build- up to the forthcoming governorship election.

Meanwhile, the state deputy governor, Prof Modupe Adelabu, has urged APC supporters to resist provocation by the opposition.

According to her, some agent provocateur and enemies of progress are on the prowl and seeking all means to plunge the state into chaos and disrupt the peace being enjoyed by the people since the Governor Kayode Fayemi administration took the saddle three years ago.

She spoke after receiving an award of Outstanding Performance in Education Administration and Governance presented to her by a group of the Executive Assistants to Governor (EAGs) in Ado- Ekiti, the state capital.

Warning that whoever allowed himself to be drawn into violence would face the wrath of the law, the deputy governor noted that Fayemi had demonstrated his penchance for peace since his administration was inaugurated.

Adelabu, however, thanked the governor’s aides for recognising her efforts and contributions to education development and good governance in the state.

She said the award would motivate her to do more for the development of the state.

Mrs. Adelabu commended the EAGs for their support and loyalty to Fayemi’s administration, particularly for propagating the good work of the government at the grassroots.

According to her, the desired development of the state could only be attained under a peaceful atmosphere.

She urged the EAGs to sustain their support for the administration and continue to be peaceful in all their conducts and activities.

EAGs Coordinator, Mr. Ajayi Babatunde, said what necessitated the award was the deputy governor’s dedication to the development of education and her loyalty to Fayemi’s administration.

Babatunde said the deputy governor’s performance at the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) was clear evidence that she is an educationist with passion.
